ORANGE GOBLIN: In Writing Mode
November 15, 2006British doomsters ORANGE GOBLIN have begun writing material for their new album, tentatively due next May via Sanctuary Records. Four tracks have already been completed and lots of ideas are coming together. The band says that the next record will definitely be a progression from 2004's "Thieving from the House of God" and will be based on its local history. Singer Ben Ward states that "it's not a concept album at all but we are using the theme of the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire that followed for a lot of lyrical and musical influence. It's definitely the strongest material we have written."
A few people have heard a couple of new songs that have been played in the recent live set and the band is currently drawing up a short list of potential producers and studios. A full U.K. tour with very special guests is being planned for May to coincide with the release of the album.
In other news, Ward will go into the studio this week to record a vocal track for the new MIDDIAN album, which is due out in April 2007. MIDDIAN is the new project of Mike from YOB and is one of the most hotly anticipated metal releases of next year. Ben will appear on the track "Sink to the Centre".
